Cultural Sensitivity

I went with MrE to In-N-Out yesterday after we caught Phantom Menace in 3D. MrE has now graduated to a 3×3 (which he devoured before I finished mine.. and he was still hungry) but he still doesn’t eat the tomato, lettuce and onion. So we always order his burgers plain, but yesterday I had an epiphany – In-N-Out doesn’t give me a discount for not including the veggies, so I’m technically still paying for it, but not getting it.

So I asked for his burger plain, with the veggies on the side, and had the veggies with my 3×3. I felt so proud of myself. I was going to tweet, “Cheap Chinese man gets his money’s worth at In-N-Out. Enjoying 3×3 with double greens.”

Then I remembered that Ben & Jerry got in trouble for using bits of fortune cookies in their Linsanity ice cream. In this day and age of cultural sensitivity, what with Jeremy Lin being a big name and all, I’d better be careful about the cheap Chinese man phrase. I wouldn’t want the Asian community knocking down my doors asking me to remove my tweet, would I?

Or maybe it’s a cheap (not-specifically-Chinese) way to get quick publicity…

i’ve always heard “All publicity is good publicity.”
But i don’t think i would want to be Rush Limbaugh today.
